How do
I configure kid-friendly email?
Important:
Before configuring kid-friendly email please procure an email address for
your child from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Also, please make note
of the POP3 and SMTP server names your ISP uses. Setting up
kid-friendly email within Hoopah Kidview Computer Explorer is very
similar to configuring Microsoft Outlook. Most ISPs provide specific
instructions for using Microsoft Outlook with their accounts. This same
documentation can be used in most cases for configuring Email within
Kidview Computer Explorer.
If you encounter problems using kid-friendly email, please contact
customer support.
Performing
the following steps will ensure that kid-friendly email is configured correctly:
Step 1. Enter the Parental Controls
area.
Step 2. Select the child's picture you
would like to configure and click Next.

Step 3. Select Email Properties

Step 4. Enter the appropriate
information for incoming and outgoing email for the email address
supplied by your Internet service provider.
Note: The following information should be supplied by your Internet
Service Provider. Setting up
kid-friendly email for your child is similar to setting up email
for Microsoft Outlook. Your ISP may
have specific information available for setting up email under Microsoft
Outlook.
User Information
- In the Your Name field, type in the name you want to appear in the
"From:" field on outgoing messages.
- In the E-mail Address field, enter your child's full email address (example
username@myisp.com).
Server Information
- Enter the Incoming mail server (POP3) and Outgoing mail server
(SMTP) fields from your ISP.
Logon Information
- In the User Name field, type in your ISP provided username.
- Enter your email password into the Password field.

Please Note:
Adding a port number after the SMTP server value is optional
i.e. smtp.myisp.com:25 is
the same as smtp.myisp.com.
Also, many ISPs will use E-mail Address
and User Name interchangeably.
Important: After the information is
entered click "Test Settings" to make verify that the
information
entered is correct.
Step 5. Add one or more contacts.
Switch to the Contacts tab and use the
Add button to specify which email addresses your
child can send email to and receive email from.

Step 6. Ensure that the "Show Desktop"
option is checked under the "General Settings"
for your child. If this checkbox is not checked your child
will not be able to access email.
